Two anniversaries

I hope our subscribers and other print readers are enjoying our special issue in honor of the Coretta Scott King Awards. We will be posting selections from the issue throughout this month and next, and while I am not going to harangue you again to buy an issue, it's really good (thank you editors and contributors) and really good-looking (thank you Lolly and Kadir).

The Horn Book's history with the CSK began back in 2001, when in our pages Marc Aronson queried the criteria for the award and Virginia Hamilton and Andrea Davis Pinkney (a valued conspirator on the CSK at 50 issue) among others dissented; these responses are linked from Marc's article. I also see that Marc briefly revisited the topic in a comment posted fifteen years later! In 2009 we began publishing the CSK acceptance speeches in every July/August issue, so I guess we have a CSK anniversary of our own, albeit tin (tin?) rather than gold. We are editing the 2019 editions of those speeches as I type, and we look forward to bringing them to you after they have been delivered at ALA at the end of June. See you then!
