VHE Listen In

VHEgallery_map_listenin_242x225The Horn Book is known primarily for its writing, but from time to time we have ventured into other media.

In the late 1980s, editor Anita Silvey hosted five radio segments for public radio. She interviewed Robert McCloskey, James Marshall, Rosemary Wells, and Uri Shulevitz. In the final piece, children reviewed a new Christmas book, The Polar Express by Chris Van Allsburg.

In 2007 and 2008 we jumped onto the podcast bandwagon (briefly) with monthly interviews and seasonal book recommendations. In one memorable segment, Roger Sutton takes us behind the scenes at ALA Midwinter to hear The Invention of Hugo Cabret named as the 2008 Caldecott Medal winner.

Due to popular demand, Horn Book editorial assistant Siân Gaetano revived the Horn Book Podcast in 2016, conducting weekly interviews with Roger Sutton and other children’s literature specialists.
